What extraction does
Document-level files are read from the PDF EmbeddedFiles name tree.
File attachment annotations are identified separately and include their page number.
Extracted data is returned without executing, previewing or unpacking it.
ZIP entries use safe base filenames and never preserve attachment paths.
MIME type and description are reported only when the PDF provides them.
An attachment is not automatically safe because its extension looks familiar.
View before downloading
The attachment list shows the stored filename, available type label, byte size, description and whether the file belongs to the whole document or to a page annotation. Missing fields are shown as unknown rather than guessed.
Single file or ZIP export
Download one attachment with its extracted bytes, or export all attachments to a ZIP. Duplicate and path-like names are converted to unique safe ZIP entry names; Setpdf does not unpack nested ZIP files.
What is not treated as an attachment
Ordinary hyperlinks, page images, embedded fonts and internal PDF objects are not exported. Only file specifications connected to document EmbeddedFiles or FileAttachment annotations are included.
Safe handling after extraction
A PDF may carry executables, scripts, archives or misleadingly named files. Setpdf does not open them or claim they are safe. Check downloads with trusted security software and open them only if you trust the source.
Private temporary processing
The PDF is uploaded to a temporary processing worker with a random filename. Setpdf does not log the PDF, original filename, attachment content, descriptions or password. Temporary PDF, extracted file and ZIP data are deleted after success, failure or timeout.

Can I view PDF attachments without a separate viewer page?
Yes. This page lists attachment details before download; the full Manager provides the same viewing information plus editing.
Does extraction change the PDF?
No. Extracting reads attachment bytes and does not write changes back to the uploaded PDF.
Are extracted files identical to the embedded data?
The single-file export writes the bytes stored in the PDF. ZIP compression changes only the container, not each file’s uncompressed attachment bytes.
Can it extract page attachment annotations?
Yes. Files associated with FileAttachment annotations are listed with their page source and can be exported.
Why is the MIME type unknown?
The PDF may not store a MIME subtype. Setpdf displays unknown instead of inferring a technical fact it cannot verify.
Does Setpdf scan attachments for malware?
No security guarantee is made. Setpdf does not execute or preview attachments; scan downloaded files with trusted security software.
