How the metadata check works
Setpdf parses the PDF locally with PDF.js and reads the document information dictionary and available XMP properties. The displayed file is never sent to Setpdf. Empty fields are shown explicitly so you can distinguish missing metadata from a failed scan.
Metadata limitations
Metadata is descriptive, not proof of authorship. It can be edited or removed, dates may use PDF-specific timezone syntax, and some readers prefer XMP while others prefer the Info dictionary. A displayed PDF/A label only indicates a declaration and is not a full compliance validation.

PDF metadata questions
Does viewing metadata change my PDF?
No. The viewer only reads the file in your browser and does not rewrite or save any part of the PDF.
Why does another PDF reader show a different author or date?
A PDF may contain both an Info dictionary and XMP metadata. Applications can prioritize those sources differently, and date parsing can vary when timezone information is missing.
Can I remove personal metadata after checking it?
Yes. Open Setpdf's PDF Metadata Editor from the result page to change or clear the fields and download a new copy.
